The clear difference between streets and highways

Every road here is a highway. They call them State Roads, County Roads, or US Routes, but they’re all highways.  If you want to go anywhere, you have to merge in to existing traffic going 60 mph.  The speed limits on the actual highways range from 60-70 mph, but every other road in this state is 55 mph with traffic lights.  Essentially everything in Florida is located on the Berlin Turnpike.  It is just weird.  There are no “neighborhoods”, instead dwellings only exist within walls of gated communities where cookie cutter tropical homes, each complete with a perfectly centered palm tree in the front yard, sit 10 feet apart from each other.

Sweaters

I love hot weather.  One of the only redeeming things about this state is its weather.  I do, however, miss wearing sweaters and jackets.  I miss this because I have an extensive, and quite fashionable collection of sweaters.  I will likely will myself to feel cold when it’s 65 in December in order to justify wearing sweaters and/or a jacket.  This is not to be mistaken as missing cold weather or seasons, as my love for semi-tropical weather trumps the first snow of the season or colorful leaves.

Culture/Education

I’ve spent nearly 28 years on this planet living in the major cultural, economic, and educational corridor between Boston and New York.  I am spoiled by this.  I demand my friends be sharp, informed, sarcastic, and have the ability to dress well.  I enjoy talking to educated people about current events and other learned things…not too many outlets for that down here.

It was a lame post, but I’m tired and not completely sure about how possible it is to revive this blog.

"They made me do it"

"They made me do it"

Christopher Dodd, the senior senator from the great nutmeg state has admitted to including a provision within AIG’s cut of the the stimulus funds that allowed for the now infamous bonuses.  He also claims that he was pushed by the Obama administration and their Treasury department counterparts in to excluding any language that would nullify any existing contracts.

Either Senator Dodd is a liar, and he was fully aware of these bonuses, or he is a pushover, and his constituents should call for his resignation because of his inability to represent his state without being strong-armed by the sitting administration.

This man has gone on long enough bullshitting his way through Washington without regard for those individuals who pay his salary at home.  These individuals at AIG do not deserve the death threats that are being sent to them.  The legislation in question had a provision which stated that all individuals signed to contracts before a certain date were to have their contracts honored as valid and legal.   It is not their fault that the federal government decided to meddle in the private sector.  The Congressional majority was in too big of a hurry to pass all of their stimulus legislation before the general public (who, according to NY-D Charles Shumer “doesn’t give a damn”) could actually read where the money was going and discover loopholes such as this.  I’m sure the backpedaling perps in congress will find a way to link this to the Bush administration, but with each passing day the people are growing more and more restless with the blunders included within their trillion dollar stimulus.

These individuals from AIG are the unwitting casualties of congressional ineptitude and shortsightedness.  Let them keep their money, reinvest it in our fragile economy, and let the government learn not to meddle where it doesn’t belong.  These people have mortgage payments, tuition fees, car payments, and plenty of other bills to pay.  Let them actually pay their bills with this money because there is a much larger percent of the population that doesn’t give a damn about paying their bills or investing their money wisely.  That particular slice of the population gets a tax break from Senator Dodd and his friends.

The just thing for Senator Dodd to do to ameliorate the situation would be to admit that he made a mistake, the entire government has rushed itself in to making mistakes, and retire to his East Haddam home.  Twenty-nine years is a good run, Chris, but it is about time you put the people before your ego.

JUSTICE!

-Also, President Obama has claimed (in this evening’s Leno appearance) to not having any prior knowledge of these bonuses.  Either he is lying, or he has no idea what went in to his economic recovery package that was supposed to save the global economy.  Thank you for your dilligence, Mr. President.  Tell Mr. Leno we send our best,  and I hope you win the White House March Madness pool.
